FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is reflexology covered?
Yes! Reflexology is now covered under many extended health plans. Suzanne is an Approved Practitioner under Manulife, Green Shield Canada and SSQ Financial. Please contact your insurer to see if you have benefits.
What is the difference between massage and reflexology?
Massage focuses on the manipulation of the soft tissue of the body, mainly the muscles. Reflexology, although it often utilizes some massage, is a separate practice that goes deeper by using specialized compression techniques applied to reflex points on the feet. These points relate to certain parts, organs and glands of the body which when stimulated, trigger that part of the body and help restore balance, reduce stress and promote self healing. Both are extremely relaxing and rejuvenating.
What can I expect from a session?
If it's your first visit, Suzanne will ask you to fill out a brief health form to ensure reflexology will be effective for you as well as ask you a few questions to learn more about your goals.
A typical session is an hour long. You will be guided into a zero gravity reclining chair and a pillow will be placed under your knees and heels for support. A towel will be wrapped around your feet and if needed, a blanket on top of you to stay warm.
A foot reflexology treatment does not involve soaking the feet beforehand as it makes it difficult for the reflexologist to see the subtle variations in colour and texture. Instead, your feet will be wiped down with a natural sanitizing solution and your session will start. Suzanne will apply some natural shea butter with essential oils and use different massage and compression techniques to stimulate reflex points on the feet and work on problem areas.
How many sessions do I need for my specific problem?
If you have a specific issue that you would like to be worked on, it is typical for the body to need 2-3 sessions to adjust to the effects of reflexology and start producing the best results.
If your condition is acute, a weekly treatment is best suited. If your condition is more chronic and you'd like to use reflexology to help you heal and maintain your health, I would suggest doing a few treatments weekly to begin with and then move to every couple of weeks or once a month. If your goal is relaxation and stress relief, anytime is a good time!
I am pregnant. Can I still get reflexology?
Yes! Suzanne is happy to help you ease your swollen feet, balance your hormones, flush out that excess fluid retention and release your stress as long as you are at least 3 months pregnant. The weeks before then can be a delicate time for the body so Suzanne prefers to work with clients after their first trimester.
Does foot reflexology help with infertility and other reproductive issues?
Yes! Foot reflexology has many benefits including regulating and balancing the endocrine system (hormones) as well as making sure all your other organs are functioning normally and optimally including the reproductive organs. In addition, reflexology helps to flush out toxins and stress from the body and leads the client in to a state of deep relaxation, rejuvenation and repair. All of these benefits can help when it comes to infertility and other reproductive issues.
